France vs England: Is the Market Making France Look Less Reliable Than They Really Are?

This third-place playoff has a very interesting odds structure.

The opening price on France was close to 1.80. That immediately created the impression of a strong favorite. In betting circles, there is a common belief that heavily backed favorites often fail, so a price like this can make bettors suspicious of France from the start.

At the same time, England are not a weak underdog. They are a top-level team being offered at a much more attractive price. For bettors looking for a bigger return, England at 3.70 is naturally more appealing than France at around 1.80.

Then there is the movement in France’s odds. France opened near 1.80, but the price has gradually drifted upward. That can reinforce the idea that France are not as reliable as the opening line suggested.

Put everything together:

France opened as a clear favorite, creating a “too obvious” or “too hot” feeling. England are strong enough to win and offer a much bigger potential return. But that is exactly why I see it differently.

My interpretation is that the market is creating a very strong psychological expectation that France are not trustworthy. The opening price near 1.80 already limited the payout on a France win, while England’s high price and France’s later drift make the underdog side look more attractive.

In other words, almost every visible signal is pushing bettors toward the same conclusion: France are too hot, France are drifting, and England offer better value.

That may be the trap.

I believe France are actually much more secure than the market movement makes them appear, and I expect them to win in 90 minutes.
